Thoughts take all the power they can have inside your head. And the longer negative and painful thoughts stay inside your head, the more power they take. It is a malevolent power and you become fearful to let them out.
Writing takes away the power of destructive thoughts. In the light of whatever source is on your writing surface shows them for what they are.
Writing can also be a way to slowly let the air out of those thoughts.
Put them on a screen or writing them on a piece of paper and you feel like you have taken their power away.
Share them and you are no longer being attacked by those words by yourself.
In poetry, you can begin with the raw words and make them your medium to work into art. You can also take out the details and leave the emotions.
