In 2013, a group of writers got together and held a writers conference in downtown Oshkosh. We called it the Lakefly Literary Conference because it would be held each May and we wanted attendees to return every year.
Our goal was to hold a reasonably priced conference that would have quality speakers and events. I think we have succeeded. Working year round, our focus is always on tailoring our session to writers of all levels.
What I did not expect was how much I would enjoy the attendees and how much they add to a successful event. They are warm, interesting, fun, and engaging. They make the event the highlight of the year for me,
If you are or want to be a writer, I recommend a conference. You learn a lot, become part of a community, and get inspired.
Over the years we have had great speakers. One of those is John Dedakis and he will be holding a workshop again this year. John DeDakis is a former editor on CNN’s “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.”
I have gotten to meet John and he has a lot of great stories. I also got to meet a hero of mine, Michael Perry, author of Population 485.
Another great Wisconsin writer that I got to have dinner with was Nikolaus Butler, author of Shotgun Love Songs.
In 2013, I was able to invite Dr. Larry Watson, author of Montana 1948. He is a great writer and his book Let Her Go, was turned into the movie. He was my professor at UW-Stevens-Point in the 90s, and I got to tell him how great he was.
If you are not a writer, but love books, we will be holding a book fair on May 3rd. It is free and open to the public.
Join us for an inspiring weekend full of creativity, learning, and connections within the writing community! Early-bird price of $90 ends March 10; $75 for students and seniors.
