Thomas Cannon

Thomas Cannon is the author of The Tao of Apathy and Shattered as well as the lead contributor of Cup of Comfort for Parents of Children With Autism. In September of 2021, Thomas was named the inaugural Poet Laureate of Oshkosh. He believes writing is an emotionally healthy act and is committed to exploring way people can heal through poetry. Each year, Thomas helps organize the Lakefly Writers Conference in Oshkosh, Wi. and cohosts the Author Showcase on the Oshkosh Media Channel.

Born on a small dairy farm in Spencer, Wisconsin, Thomas was drawn to the honest work of farming, but followed his passion for writing and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from UW-Stevens Point. He and his wife have three children and two grandchildren.

Mikey Haskell believes he has escaped the pain from his breakup with Karen by going on the road for six months. His first few days of being home in the Twin Cities sets him straight. At first, he believes he can only move forward by declaring he is in love with his best friend, Alaine. When that does not go well, he tries to leave all human emotion behind by becoming an animal-like being.

The Tao of Apathy is a satirical romp through the modern workplace. The book takes place at a hospital and looks at life from the perspective of multiple employees. There are stupid bosses you’ll love to hate and ridiculous rules created for the shear joy of red tape. The author takes you on a ride, to see what if anything will change for these workers, culminating with some surprising twists.
