Move to Moscow

An aunt of mine shared this post on Facebook- a list of how we are a nation that says this, but does this. (We believe in supporting the military but letfootball players kneel, etc) I believe my aunt is concerned with how divided our country is. My mom is an outspoken liberal. She went fought for her kids and anyone for that matter if she thought they were getting a raw deal. Now with Facebook, she rails against Trump everyday. She fights for what she believes in, so she responds that Trump is ruining this country. A family member’s response to this was:  move to Moscow.

This really struck me. Evidently he is against the right for women to choose and for black players to have the right to kneel. He is entitled to his opinion. But move to Moscow as a response? Does he not want to move Moscow to our country?  He clearly does not want her to state her opinion. Thus Russia would be a better fit for him.

Move to Moscow as a response? That in itself says if you do not agree with me, you should not be in our country. The great thing about our country is that people do not have to be silent.

So perhaps (In some people’s view) the players that kneel for the flag are being disrespectful. Perhaps they are in the wrong. However, the response to someone complaining about our country by saying well then leave it is asinine. State your well-reasoned beliefs, but to say Go to Moscow means you do not want people to have the freedom to speak up. You love a dictatorship.

PS- I want to believe that the response was just inarticulate. However, it does seem that people want the US to be the way they want it. The old way- back when we could trample on the rights of people different than white and Christian
