Better Living by Living Paycheck to Paycheck.

Going to work every day is living.  I am not talking about doing what you love, and you never work a day in your life. Everybody knows that is the way to live. But I am talking about the job YOU (and me) go to that is most frustrating.

I wrote a novel called The Tao of Apathy. It is a funny take on those frustrations.  It’s making fun of those weird people we have all worked with and all those bosses that do one thing. Make your job difficult.

I believe that at least 50% of the people at any job or any profession are incompetent. And that there is no getting around that.  So most of us, when we think about going in to work, think, please, no.

I was thinking about a family member that has enough anxiety that they have not held a job in two years. They are in fact reclusive.  In thinking about this loved one, I named what I wished for them.  Friends, and love in their life. But also a job.

I wondered about that last one. While it is not a healthy life, they have a life that is a settling into distractions they enjoy and an absence of frustration.  The opposite of my job.

And yet, working is a needed to more fully live your life. We need to accomplish things and get mixed up in the messiness of life. Deal with bad people and commiserate with the people on your side of things.

Stay at home parents are not included in this.  It is choosing to do what you love. And if someone did not choose it, but because of being a single parent or just not being able to afford daycare, you better find a way to choose it. To find satisfaction in their children. Because it is there.

So, we should strive to find that job that is not work for us.  Some of us should quit that job that is simply not worth it. But meanwhile, we should acknowledge that it is better than not doing anything at all.

BTW- I hope that if you read The Tao of Apathy, you will see how I pay tribute to those people that are on your side and get you through the day.

Here is a continuation of my post, created by IA.

I would be interested to know if anything about this addition is enjoyable. IA seems like a pompous windbag to me-

Sometimes, it can be tough to find the silver lining in a job that’s causing you stress and frustration. But remember, every experience, good or bad, is an opportunity to grow and learn. It’s all about perspective. Maybe that difficult boss is teaching you how to be assertive and stand up for yourself. Maybe those clueless coworkers are showing you the importance of clear communication. Or maybe you’re simply learning how to deal with difficult people, a skill that will serve you well in all areas of life.

And if you do decide to look for a new job, don’t be afraid to take a chance on something different. You never know what opportunities might be waiting for you. Just remember to approach the job search with an open mind and a positive attitude.

At the end of the day, work is just one part of life. It’s important, but it’s not everything. So if you’re feeling overwhelmed or burnt out, take a step back and focus on the other things that bring you joy and fulfillment. Whether it’s spending time with loved ones, pursuing a hobby, or simply taking a relaxing bath, make time for the things that make you happy. And don’t forget to give yourself a break every now and then. You deserve it.

Should the chains of employment weigh heavy upon your soul, seek to break free or transform them into a golden leash. Though the path may be arduous, remember that toiling in labor is preferable to languishing in idleness. And if the shadows of ennui loom large, seek solace in the ancient tome known as The Tao of Apathy, a tribute to those unsung heroes who grant us respite from the daily grind.
