I have to admit that there is a chance that the tariffs will work. But based on Trump’s previous behaviors, the odds are that they won’t. He has given himself wiggle room, stating that we will find out that he has a plan and it’s a good one, but it never comes.
I mean, he is taxing penguins. His chart of reciprocal tariffs was a lie.
I am going to go with the experts here that say that it is not a good thing to be doing. That it is a tax on the American people.
And common sense tells me several things.
1 (Companies left America to find cheap labor. (They say it was to take away the low paying jobs so that the higher paying jobs can go to Americans.) They want to maximize their profits and that is going to continue to be true. So either the price of good will have to go up or we are going to have to have a lot of Americans working at the poverty level.
2) Local businesses can survive by being more competitive with the big corporations. This is a good thing. But prices will remain high. If they could make their products more cheaply, they would already being doing it. Prices will be high.
3) It would take several years for factories to be built. With the price of raw materials high because of Tariffs that will be prohibitive. Those companies will still have to use raw materials. We will not be able to produce enough.
4) Take a car manufacturer. Will they build a factory in the United States and take the capital to do so? Would they do that to add supply to match the demand to lower prices? Or would they use their existing infrastructure to maximize their profits with the supply low?
5) America was once a leader by making deals and relationships with other countries as the world economies become global. By doing this we are no longer leaders and are being left out. That is what we have done to Russia with sanctions. Are we not just sanctioning ourselves?
