No More Ugly Girls is Contemporary fiction featuring a love triangle. At least my version of one. Steve is a handsome professional. Chad is a gas station manager with a scruffy beard from the wrong side of the track. The side of the tracks Auburn Halverson is from.
I have never been in a love triangle. But I have been the guy that she turned to between a break up and getting back together.
Am I Chad? Yes, at heart. Is Chad a good guy? That is for the reader to judge.
The real question is he emotionally healthy? Because I explore that. On the other hand, Steve is emotionally damaged. He is the bad guy in the story. But I would say he needs to heal to be good for someone. From reviews, some people find Auburn’s choice to stay with him after he cheats as a hard read.
We (you and me) want a heroine that is strong. That doesn’t put up with shit.
But I argue that Auburn is too strong and that’s why she can deal with his shit. She sacrifices herself for the perceived stability for her children.
The love triangle is that both love Auburn. The problem is that Auburn does not love herself. And that must come first!
Powerful ending, right? But I must qualify that so does everyone. Steve the cheater. Even Chad, who would treat her right, must first learn to love himself.
