Poetry is New Thoughts
Just keep writing until you have expressed yourself and got out somethings you only knew subconsciously. However, then reducing the free writing into a poem distills everything into something manageable.

oetry is especially relevant for writers. I believe that even if you are writing nonfiction, a short story or a novel, there is a poem rolling around in your psyche lighting up the words to use like a pinball machine. So my message to the writers is this:
