A good article on submitting to journals. Yes, look for writing samples online to see if your style matches AND get an issue or two of those journals you want to get into and want to support.

I’ve done my fair share of submitting, and I can attest to not only the time it takes to thoroughly read and meet all of the submission guidelines, but how important it is if you are serious about sharing your work with a larger audience.
