Is it just me or have people forgotten to think of how their message is received before saying something? I think maybe so. Though it may just be that people don’t care anymore. They are only considering how something affects them and what their reaction should be.
People react with anger. They do not wait to see if they are justified. They also do not go back and reconsider if they were. They were right, you were wrong and what are you attacking me further when you want to talk about how you were affected.
There is another phenomenon that is related. For example, lets say, I ask someone at work, if they would like me to bring something to eat to work. Perhaps I want to do it because I want to help them out. They can’t say no, or yes. They have to say, “I am too busy to eat.”
“That’s why I thought I’d bring you lunch.”
“What are you talking about? Don’t you see all that I have to do.”
They simply care more about getting something off their chest or telling their narrative than they do how their message is received. Especially since it can go further than that. The narrative continues to attack you (Unintentionally?) – “you maybe have time to wander around and get something to eat.”
It could be passive aggressive. It could be I don’t do my fair share (this is just a fictitious example, but I do). I think they simply want to draw attention to themselves. Not in a bad way, but in that they are feeling overwhelmed and want someone to notice.
