Thankful for a Garage

You never know what exactly affects a person’s life.  What choice has consequences that you could never imagine. Both bad and good.  I was thinking of a good one as I drove home and was planning on messing around in my garage.  November has been so mild.

It got me to thinking.  Like 20 years ago, my parents’ detached garage burned down. They then built a 4 car garage attached to their house.  The old garage was not bad. It was fairly spacious. But I think the new garage increases my father’s quality and quantity of life.

This new garage had enough space so that my dad could purchase a classic car and work on it.  On top of that, he built furniture and even painted pictures in the garage.

I don’t think he would have been in the other garage nearly as much. As he is now in his 80s, I think he would have stopped making trips out to the garage to do his hobbies and even just to hang out. No, the other garage was not far enough away and yet would be a trip outside in the cold.

Out in the garage, he has his TV.  It allows him to do things and still listen to old music on youtube. He has pride in this nice garage and has it decorated. He putters and cleans.

He has kept active in his senior years. Part of that is having that garage just a few steps down from the kitchen.

I am thankful for that garage.
