Shut Down Causes Suicide

I was listening to an add for online therapy. It made me think of the argument against the quarantine because it has an effect on people’s mental health. Spousal abuse and depression, suicide and substance abuse going up is an important thing to consider.

I just hope the people that state their concerns are also for universal health care. Wouldn’t that be a great way to make sure everyone has access to help?

I think it is safe to say that the quarantine is a trigger for some mental illnesses. However, its not a cause. If it was not being at home, then something else would have caused it.  Research tells us that our happiness is influenced by our circumstances 10%.

I believe the pandemic might teach us to do things differently. Perhaps in the future we won’t shut down the entire country. Yet, if we are concerned about it not causing substance abuse, and depression, then we need a plan for people to have access to health care- not emergency care, but comprehensive access.

Otherwise caring about suicide and depression because it is caused by the pandemic, when it fits our narrative, but not at other times is hypocritical.
