Taking Chances With Poetry

Take Chances with Poetry

When the call for a poet laureate of Oshkosh was made in 2021, there was a voice in my head that said,

You are at an age when people relax and stay at home watching TV. Why take on something new?

Obviously, I did take it on. And the choice to engage has brought me great experiences and to meeting new people.

Poetry took me to an event lead by James Hamilton in Sheboygan. We (Linda and I) greatly enjoyed the city and we got to meet some interesting people. I got to be part of a great event.

Writing and performing written word has taken me to open mics and to organizing open mics. Poetry is small enough to try it as a new thing. So are open mics. Poetry lovers are supportive enough that you will be successful at an event. I love that some poets have gotten up and read for the first time at an event I created.

No one has regretted doing it.

Poetry helps you to get to know people. And even if you NEVER share your poem with someone else, you get to know yourself better.
